BURMA 1934-41 Teeming with the joy and abundance of life, the great Irrawaddy river is the life-blood of Myanmar, the country once known as Burma. From its myriad of sources high in the jungle-clad slopes of the mountainous hills bordering China, the 'River of Blessings' winds a thousand miles South to its fertile delta that opens into the Bay of Bengal. To a little boy conceived in the Kachin Hills and living by the great river for his first five years, the country's fascinating wildness, creatures, culture and essence burn deep into his character, shaping the whole of his life.

The Snaking River is a fascinating read. Written by M.L.Eaton, it gives an account of an English civil engineer and his family living in Burma during the period of 1934 to 1941. Capturing the spirit and culture of the Burmese people, the writer gives a descriptive picture of the magnificent Irrawaddy river, the life-blood of many Burmese. Slowly, a dark shadow descends.
A compelling finale!

I have always found Burma fascinating and in this book Marion made me feel as if I was actually there. Her use of language paints a picture that is real and you can see it in your minds eye; you can almost smell the flowers and the jungle! Marion captures all your senses in her evocative use of language which makes the reading experience so enjoyable.
A beautiful, lyrical description of Burma (Myanmar) in the 1930s. The British family and the events that befall them in the book, are described with warmth and compassion. There is beauty, love, sadness, joy and heart-stopping drama, with a light touch of spirituality, all brought together to create a delightful read.
